Known as Hahanyama in TjiKalanga, this tree is also found in Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, and Somalia. This species occurs in woodland and wooded grassland at medium to low altitudes, and various parts of the tree are used for medicinal purposes. The roots are uses to relieve abdominal pains, relieve toothaches, cure headaches and bile (inyongo).
Other names for Hahanyama: Isihaqa (isiNdebele), Muremberembe/Muvheneka (ChiShona), Moelela (SeSotho), Wild Garlic (English) and Wildeknoffel (Afrikaans).
